Makena Mwathi '26

Biography

Makena M. Mwathi is a junior from Atlanta, Georgia, studying Film, Television, and Theatre at the University of Notre Dame, with a concentration in television and minors in Musical Theatre and Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Rooted in a desire to reflect God’s love through storytelling, Makena is passionate about film production and the power of visual media to foster cultural inclusivity and connection.
Currently, Makena serves as the Co-Creative Director for Beyond the Dome, where they produce inclusive social media content. They also work with Fighting Irish Media as a live broadcast and communications worker, gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard production equipment. Beyond film, Makena is an experienced pianist with 15 years of experience and is pursuing composing for film and television. Their passion for theatre extends into costume design and direction.
In addition to film production, Makena has worked on various creative marketing campaigns, utilizing their content creation, videography, and social media management skills. They are actively seeking opportunities to work on both film and TV sets, focusing on directing, screenwriting, and composing.
