Biography

Griffin Velez '29, from Mendham, New Jersey, is double-majoring in History and International Economics, with interests at the intersection of law and business. He values the freedom to study what interests him without it narrowing his career options, and has used that freedom to pursue both disciplines rather than choosing a single, narrower track.

At Notre Dame, Griffin is a Sheedy Family Scholar and serves as Director of the Law, Government, and Public Policy branch of Beyond the Dome, the club's largest subsection, which grew from roughly 250 to over 300 members under his leadership this past year. Both programs help underclassmen with career discernment by connecting them with professionals in fields of interest, giving students outside those fields a clearer sense of how to break in. For Griffin, that work reflects a broaderĀ belief: a humanities education doesn't preclude professional success; it supports fulfillment.

Griffin's own path is an example of that bridge-building. In the summer of 2026, he studied the economics of migration and its environmental impacts across Central America while abroad in Panama, an experience that sharpened his interest in how economic policy shapes real communities. He will apply that same economic thinking in a private equity internship with Bridgeport Partners in the summer of 2027, gaining exposure to the kind of deal analysis and structuring work that bridges business and law.
