Biography
Madeline Hutson ‘28 is a Political Science major with minors in Economics (PPE) and Constitutional Studies. Her academic and professional interests center on the role of legal institutions in advancing justice, strengthening national security, and shaping U.S. foreign policy, which she explores in her fellowships with the International Security Center and Center for Democracy Studies. Madeline employs her research skills studying the intersection of religion and national security policy, with a particular focus on terrorism. In the spring of ‘27 Madeline looks forward to gaining international experience studying abroad in London.
On campus, Madeline serves as the Vice President of Student Policy Network, one of the largest clubs on campus, connecting undergraduates with government entities, think tanks, and advocacy groups to conduct real-world policy research. She is also the President of the Political Science Society, which is responsible for coordinating student engagement with all policy-oriented clubs, societies, and publications and planning events alongside the Political Science Department. Madeline works as a personal trainer and sports programs manager at Notre Dame, where she continues to embrace her lifelong passion for fitness and athletics.
Growing up in a military family instilled in Madeline a deep commitment to public service. She plans to pursue a career in law, where she hopes to apply policy research and legal analysis to protect constitutional rights and advance the public interest on critical national security issues. Madeline’s experiences interning in federal law at the U.S. Department of Justice, digital forensic investigation at the County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit, and government affairs consulting at the Roosevelt Group have prepared her to tackle complex questions at the intersection of the legal sector, national security policy analysis, and government strategy.
