Biography
Matthew Deahl '29 is a finance and political science major with a minor in AI analytics in business from South Bend, IN. His passion lies at the intersection of diverse civic dialogue and innovative business problem-solving. Last summer, Matthew explored both of these interests, working for the City of South Bend, assisting in community outreach initiatives, and later for the consumer and media venture capital fund Showcase Ventures.
Beyond the Sheedy Family program, Matthew is a Tocqueville Fellow, studying the interactions between politics, culture, and religion in modern society, and an inaugural Corde Scholar, developing contemplative social justice leadership. Following his passion for political dialogue and openness, Matthew serves as a Contributing Writer for the Beyond Politics journal and as Vice President of the bipartisan organization BridgeND, bringing students together through conversation. He continues this passion for dialogue through business initiatives, serving as Project Leader for the SIBC Kaufman Hall project and as co-founder of his small-business public speaking tutoring service, Speakiful.
Originally from South Bend, Matthew has a strong respect for and dedication to the community that shaped him, giving back by serving as President of the Notre Dame Lilly Scholars Network, where he provides service and social events to other Indiana scholars, as well as connecting Notre Dame to his home community through being a member of the Student Government Dept. of South Bend Engagement. Matthew is excited to continue exploring how to approach community problem-solving through new, collaborative means.
